1. 2023: Election Won’t Hold In 240 Polling Units –INEC
The National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said the 2023 General Elections will not hold in 240 polling units cut across 28 states of the federation and the FCT.
INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu made the disclosure on Monday in Abuja during a meeting with national leaders of political parties participating in the election. Read more.
2. Tinubu Counters PDP, Denies Stockpiling New Naira Notes
Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has denied the allegations made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that he is mopping up new naira notes to buy votes during the upcoming elections.
Tinubu, who made this known through a statement issued on Monday by his Media office and signed by Mahmud Jega, said that PDP lied.
3. Naira Deadline: Banks, Fuel Stations Ignore S’Court, Reject Old Notes
Despite a Supreme Court Ruling last week restraining CBN from implementing the deadline on the use of old naira notes until 15th February when a decision would be made, some deposit money banks and petrol stations have stopped collecting the old naira notes.
This has caused panic among Point of Sales operators and customers whose old naira notes were rejected by bank officials who maintained that they were acting on CBN’s directives.

Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has lamented that the lingering naira crisis has caused hunger as Nigerians don’t have access to cash to make basic transactions, therefore, leading to anger across the nation.
The Sultan, who stated this at a two-day conference by the Kano State government on livestock reforms and mitigation of associated conflicts in Abuja on Monday, expressed concern that the situation may lead to anarchy.
He urged the ruling class to put politics aside and act fast and douse the rising tension nationwide caused by the twin scarcity of fuel and Naira notes to prevent an uprising.
7. CSOs Protest In Lagos, Demand Resignation Of EFCC Boss
Civil Society Organisations on Monday staged protest in Lagos, demanding the immediate removal of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdul Rasheed Bawa.
The CSOs based their agitation on the alleged politicisation of operations of the EFCC, disobedience of court orders and infringement on human rights.
8. Nigerian Govt To Spend 82% Of Revenue On Debt Service In 2023
A projection made by the International Monetary Fund has revealed that the Nigerian Government will spend 82 per cent of its revenue on servicing debts in the 2023 fiscal year.
This is an improvement from 96.3 per cent in 2022, 87.8 per cent in 2021 and 86.1 per cent in 2020.

Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has debunked the allegation that he gave the Christian Association of Nigeria and Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria the sum of N2 billion to support his candidacy in the February 25 presidential election.
Obi debunked the claim while speaking on Channels TV’s ‘Politics Today’ programme on Monday, 13th February.
The LP presidential candidate said he has never given CAN even N1 before, adding that anyone with evidence can prove him wrong so he can withdraw from the presidential race.
