The Summer Was Good Moment For Big Club Move – Chelsea New Boy, Cucurella

Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella on Wednesday had his first introductory press conference where he was asked about a couple of questions regarding his signing and last Sunday’s match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Cucurella was subject of a transfer interest from Manchester City but the current champions baulked at the transfer fee demanded by Brighton and Hoves Albion.

The Spanish left back ended up signimg for Thomas Tuchel’s side for £62million.

Cucurella on his summer: “The summer was busy with a lot of rumours. When I stayed in Brighton I thought this summer was a good moment to move to a big club and Chelsea is a big club. I am happy to stay here in Chelsea.

When asked about the transfer fee which the Blues paid for him which Pep Guardiola’s City failed to meet, the player had this to say:

“I am happy. It is a lot of money and it is a lot of responsibility for me but I am very happy. Todd and Thomas had a lot of interest for me to come here.

Cucurella is able to play in any position on the left side of his team but reveals his favourite position.

“All the positions on the left side are good for me but I think my best position is left back in a back four,” he noted.

On the ill-tempered game on Sunday and the hair-pulling incident with Spurs’ Christian Romero which eluded referee Anthony Taylor, the left said:

Cucurella asked how is his hair: “Good, good! (my hair is good)”

“For me, yes. It is too clear. I think the video is very clear. This is one for the referee and the VAR. Sometimes referees make good decisions or not, this is not my problem.

Responding to a question on his feelings towards Cucurella Romero and if he will have his hair cut, Cucurella said: “I have no problem with him.

It’s just one action of the game but maybe it was important because it changed the final result. I will never get my haircut, this is my style.”

The former Getafe man is a free kick specialist and minced no words on whether he will score from his free kicks should he be handed the opportunities.

“There’s a lot of good players but if I get an opportunity to take a free kick, I will score it. 100%.” (said with a smile).

Finally on the interview, he was asked about his relationship with captain Cesar Azplicueta who is a fellow Spaniard.

Cucurella on Azpilicueta’s influence on him: “He helped with the houses, schools( for my kids) and settling in.”
