Super Eagles Hold Last Training Session For Costa Rica Friendly In San Jose

Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Wednesday morning held their last training session ahead of the international friendly match against Costa Rica reports Prime Business Africa.

The team comprised of 18 home-based players from the Nigeria Professional Football League will be facing the Central American side in what would be Nigeria’s first official game against Costa Rica.

The home-based Eagles have been training at the Centro De Alto Rendimiento Training Centre in San Jose.

The piece of information was posted on the verified Twitter handle of the Super Eagles on Wednesday morning.

Barring Jamaica (in two games out of six) Nigeria have not defeated teams from the Central American region in past football meetings.

The game itself is the penultimate one for the three-time African champions in the 2022 calendar year as they will take on Portugal next week Thursday.

The clash against Portugal will see first team regulars strutting their talents in the Europe playing against the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves, Goncalves Guides among other superstars set to lit up the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Earlier in the year, the Super Eagles lost to Mexico and recently lost to the first team of Algeria after being held to a 2-2 draw by the home-based Algerian national team side in a test game.

The Costa Rica versus Nigeria friendly is slated to kick off at 3am Nigerian time on Thursday morning which is 8pm Costa Rican time on Wednesday.

Meanwhile the Nigeria Football Federation new President, Ibrahim Gusau has once again apologised to Nigeria football fans for the country’s failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, pledging that all hands will be on deck to ensure the three-time African champions win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’ Ivoire.

Head coach of the home-based Eagles Yusuf according to some unconfirmed reports will not be part of the travelling party to Lisbon for the game against Portugal.

The Nigeria Football Federation insist there are limited funds which would  unable some of the backroom staff to make the trip.
