Soludo Mourns, As 15 Die In Ogbaru Boat Accident

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has sympathized with the families of persons involved in Ogbaru boat accident that occured in Umunnankwo Community in Ogbaru Local Council Area of the state.

It was gathered that many are still unaccounted for in the unfortunate incident, though search is still ongoing.

However, reports has it that the boat occupants were on their way to Nkwo Ogbakuba when it capsized by Umunankwo Ossomala Bridge and many drowned. Government officials said about 30 people were in the boat when it capsized.

”We were duly informed that not more than 15 people died in the mishap,” a government official said Sunday morning in an exchange with Prime Business Africa on the matter

“This Ogbaru boat accident  is still a shock to the government and good people of Anambra State. I sympathize with the families of people involved.” Governor Soludo said in a statement made available to the media on Saturday evening.

While regretting the unfortunate incident, the governor further stated that several interventions have been sent by government to various IDP camps within the State.

He assured that government will continue to do its best to reduce the negative effects of the flood disaster.

The Ogbaru  coastal  areas have been flooded in recent weeks, forcing visitors to the area to use canoes and boats.  For instance, the Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Reverend Valerian Maduka Okeke was forced to visit the area on a canoe recently.

He defies the floods to embark on a missionary assignment in one of the parishes at Odekpe.

The Archbishop had to access the church premises using locally made canoe, a demonstration of his sincere love to his flock, Catholic faithful in the area said.

While delivering a homily, titled “the just man lives by his faith,” Archbishop Okeke charged the people of God to always remain patient in times of difficulties and challenges since the Lord will come to their rescue at a due time with accompanying blessings.

He reminded Christians that the world is not a bed of roses, but that with faith, the faithful will be on the winning side every time.
