Simeone Explains Klopp’s Handshake Snub In Champions League Defeat

Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has vehemently declared his ‘no handshake’ decision with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League.

The Reds claimed a narrow 3-2 win over the Spanish champions at the latter’s Wanda Metropolitano and Simeone defended that when he spoke with the media afterwards.

Mohamed Salah scored a 78th-minute penalty while Antoine Griezmann was sent off in the contest for a foul he committed in the vital area.

Griezmann had scored a grace to cancel the opening 13 minutes strikes from the boots of Salah and Naby Keita.

“I don’t always greet (the other manager) after the game because I don’t like it,’ Simeone told reporters when asked about the incident at his post-match press conference.

‘It’s not healthy for either the winner or the loser. I think of it that way.

‘But now, when I see him, I’ll greet him without a problem.’

The game’s outcome saw Liverpool open up a five-point lead over the La Liga champions at the top of the group, but Simeone’s extraordinary behaviour at the full-time whistle dominated discussion after the game.
