Rivers United, Plateau United Beat Opponents In CAF Champions League Clashes

Nigeria’s representatives in the 2022-2023 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, Rivers United and Kwara United recorded victories in their opening campaigns at home on Sunday evening.

NPFL Champions Rivers United, Rivers United thrashed visiting Watanga FC of Liberia 3-0 in their first leg preliminary round of the Champions at the Adokiye Amiesimaka International Stadium, Port Harcourt.

Kenechukwu Agụ scored the opener in the 8th minute for Stanley Eguma’s men.

Ten minutes later, the Pride of Rivers made it two-nil after left back Ebube Duru shot from 20 yards to make it goal number two assisted by Paul Acquahm

Paul Acquah scored the third goal in the added time of the first half.

At the refurbished Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, Kwara United defeated AS Douanes of Niger 3-0 win to establish a huge advantage against them in the return leg.

Wasiu Jimoh scored a brace in the 17th and 40th minutes after Paul Samson had score an early fifth minute goal for the Harmony Boys.

Plateau United had a near perfect away match on Saturday after Stade Mandji came from behind to drew 2-2 against the former NPFL champions in the CAF Champions League.

In the Confederation Cup, another representative, Remo Stars played out a, 1-1 draw against host, AS FAR of Morocco with Adams Olamilekan in target for the Nigerian side.

The return leg of the matches will hold within the weekend of 16 – 18 September, 2022.

Izuchukwu Okosi

He has been part of cast in some Nollywood movies and radio dramas including Blood Money 2, Scores To Settle, Dead End 2, Another Campus Tale and Battle Line. Aside mainstream media and the entertainment industry, he has interests in scouting/unearthing of talents in the sports and creative sectors, exports business and property development.
