Rita Ofili Set To Represent Nigeria At Maiden Miss Wheelchair World

 

Nigeria will be represented by Miss Rita Ofili at the inaugural 2022 Miss Wheelchair World competition in Mexico Prime Business Africa reports.

Miss Ofili is a graduate of Economics from University of Lagos and has thus made history as the First Miss Nigeria Wheelchair paegent.

The maiden edition of the glamorous event will hold on 23 October 2022.

Addressing journalists at a well attended press briefing, Ofili remarked that she is out to change the mind-set of Nigerians towards persons living with disabilities and those on wheelchairs in particular as many of them were professionals in their various fields of human endeavor who have contributed their own quota towards the development of Nigeria.

“Yes, Miss WheelChair World is an International initiative that has embraced an inclusive beauty contest of women on the WheelChair from different countries of the world. It is a platform to change the image and attitude that a person with disablity cannot contest in a beauty Pageant, ” Ofili began.

“Miss wheelchair world international has evolved changing the narrative of WheelChair users by encouraging them to speak out in one voice that women on wheelchair exist and there is no limit. To speak out and request for their Equality, Accessibility and Inclusion right.

The novelty idea of Miss WheelChair World to be held in Mexico is an integration of communities WheelChair users who possess abilities and competence has encouraged many WheelChair users to be believe in themselves, respected and accepted in their respective communities.

Miss Ofili called for support from well meaning Nigerians as the paegent comes to stay.

“Believe in us and we would believe in ourselves. We are in our own beautiful world, thus we want the world to encourage our abilities.

“I am humbly using this medium to plead to our government, corporate organisations, individuals within Nigeria and other countries to help me to compete in Miss wheelchair world 2022,” she concluded.

Izuchukwu Okosi

Izuchukwu Okosi is a Nigerian sports and entertainment journalist with two decades of experience in the media industry having begun his media journey in 2002 as an intern at Mundial Sports International (MSI) and Africa Independent Television (AIT), owners of Daar Communications Plc. In October 2004, Okosi joined Complete Communications Limited, publishers of Complete Sports newspaper and Complete Football magazine as a reporter and later script writer for the Complete Sports studio. He worked there for 13 years until October 2017. Okosi also worked various times as Correspondent, Content creator and Editor at Sports Market International Magazine, Opera News, All Nigeria Soccer Media and Iconic Media Watch. He also undertook freelance writing gigs for some local and international organizations. Okosi is a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Association of Voiceover Artistes of Nigeria (AVOA), Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). He has been part of cast in some Nollywood movies and radio dramas including Blood Money 2, Scores To Settle, Dead End 2, Another Campus Tale and Battle Line. Aside mainstream media and the entertainment industry, he has interests in scouting/unearthing of talents in the sports and creative sectors, exports business and property development.
