Real Reasons Enugu Govt Banned Keke, Tipper, Okada

Facts have emerged on why Enugu State Government banned the use of Tricycles, motorcycles and tipper trucks in some communities in Nkanu West, Nkanu East, Enugu North and Enugu East Local Government Areas of the state with immediate effect.

The state government on Friday banned the operations of Tricycle, Motorcycle, and Tipper-Truck in all the communities in Nkanu East and Nkanu West Local Government Areas of the state after an emergency security meeting with major stakeholders including council chairmen, traditional rulers, Presidents General of the communities, politicians and heads of security agencies, over the recent killings of innocent citizens by gunmen in the affected areas.

A security source who was privy to the emergency security meeting summoned by Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, disclosed that the ban was the outcome of the emergency security meeting where the security reports in the affected areas were presented and critically analyzed.

According to the security source who pleaded anonymity, it was discovered that motorcycles were being used by some accomplices to give gunmen information about the presence and movement of security personnel, especially the military officers in the affected communities.

“In the same vein, the keke or tricycles are also being used by some riders to assist the unknown gunmen to convey guns and rifles of security personnel to a safe place after killing them on duty.

“After the killings and maiming of some people in some communities in Nkanu West LGA on the day of the recent local government election in the state, the gunmen and their internal collaborators were caught by security personnel, while they were conveying the corpses of three of their members who were gunned down by security personnel during a gun duel to a bush for burial.”
