‘PIB, a criminal document to enslave the Niger Delta people’

The Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) is a criminal document put together by honourable thieves as a tool to plunder our land and resources and to further enslave the Niger Delta people.

This is the position of the Niger Delta Congress in a press statement in response to the recently passed Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) and made available to Prime Business Africa. The Congress has called on every Niger Delta citizen to reject the bill as they prepare for the upcoming conference slated for the 8th and 9th of October, 2021. 

Describing the PIB as “contemptible and an act of aggression”, the Niger Delta Congress said since it was never assented to by Niger Deltans, “enforcement can only happen by force and not with the cooperation of our people.”

The statement accused Niger Deltans in the service of the federal government of working against the interest of the region. “We also take note of the treacherous active and passive roles played by the political leadership of the Niger Delta in the facilitation of this disrespect to our people; this we find embarrassing and sad.”

In the statement, the Niger Delta Congress did not spare the IOCs. “We’ll also use this opportunity to remind oil companies operating in the Niger Delta that what they’re engaged in is legalised robbery which is also an act of aggression”, part of the statement read.

Over the years the Niger Delta region has suffered from environmental pollution as a result of oil exploration activities by International Oil Companies (IOC).
