As the Osun State governorship election draws close, President Muhammadu Buhari has formally presented the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag to the party candidate, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
During the ceremonial presentation of the flag on Wednesday, the president gave assurances that the party is committed to furthering the development journey of the state and commended the performance of Governor Oyetola in his first term in office.
According to a statement by the Senior Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari said he has confidence that the party would win the election under a free and fair atmosphere.
The Osun State governorship election is scheduled to hold on July 16, with the incumbent governor, Oyetola seeking to return for his second term in office.
President Buhari gave kudos to the co-chairs of the Osun State Governorship Campaign Council for the party, Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Lagos and Kano States respectively, as well as the Vice Chairman, Niger State’s Abubakar Sani Bello, for their deep commitment into the campaign to re-elect Governor Oyetola.
“I wish you the best of luck”, said the President.
In response to the invitation to participate at the Grand Finale of the rallies, next week, he said, “I hope I will make myself available to boost your morale.”
The Deputy National Chairman of the Party, Senator Abu Kyari, who presented the candidate on behalf of the National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, commended the President for leading the Party to victory.
Kyari described Governor Oyetola as a performing Governor who has done well in his first term and is deserving of a second one.
He also expressed optimism that the Party will emerge the overall winner in the general elections in February next year.
Present at APC presentation were the National Secretary, Senator Omisore and the Secretary of the Osun Campaign Council who is also the Sokoto State APC gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu.
