Former Nigeria head coach Gernot Rohr believes SS Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is a good replacement for Robert Lewandowski at Bayern Munich, Prime Business Africa reports today.
Lewandowski has just one hear left on his Bayern contract but the Bavarians despite the recent acquisition of Sadio Mane are reluctant to let go of the Poland international.
Lewandowski is adamant that he wants to join Barcelona but the Spanish giants are deeply enmeshed in financial turmoil and needs to sell players before they can buy.
Barcelona had had to sell 10% of their broadcast rights to a private firm for 25 years to generate the funds to sign Lewandowski and other summer targets.
Rohr spoke about the suitability of Osimhen to become Lewandowski’s successor.
“If Bayern let Robert Lewandowski go, Victor would be a good alternative,” the Franco- German told Bild.
“I think he would prevail in Munich. Since he already has experience in the Bundesliga and speaks a little German, his adjustment period is of course shorter than with other players from abroad,” Rohr who was sacked by the Nigeria Football Federation in December 2021 said.
Osimhen who was bizarrely omitted from the list of nominees for the African Footballer of the Year 2022 in Morocco ostensibly because he missed the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon earlier in the year due to injury.
