Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has commissioned street lights spanning 7.6km and 5.2km powered by Ossiomo Independent Power Plant (IPP) in various communities in Oredo and Egor Local Government Areas of the State.
Obaseki was accompanied on the commissioning by his wife, Betsy; his Chief of Staff, Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha; candidates of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 forthcoming general elections and other top government functionaries.
The streetlight spans from Dawson; Akpakpava Junction to Iyaro, down to Urubi, Five Junction and Uselu Shell, all measuring 3.15km, and from Uselu Shell to UNIBEN Main Gate in Ugbowo, which is 4.4km.
The governor also commissioned 11 KV Independent Power Plant Extension (IPP) from Five Junction to UBTH which measures 5.2km.
The benefiting communities include Yoruba Community in Iyaro; Ward 4 and 6; Five Junction (Ward 5), all in Oredo LGA, as well as Ward 10 in Ugbowo and Ward 5 in Uselu Community, in Egor LGA.
Speaking on the project, the functioning Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Electricity, Engr. Victor Osagbouwa Obanor, said the project is a multi-faceted project that will benefit the people and improve the economy of the area.
He urged all the benefiting communities to ensure the protection of the facilities and other government utilities in their areas.
