NPC Trains Comptrollers On Critical Processes For 2023 Census

The National Population Commission (NPC) has begun training comptrollers in charge of the Commission’s Local Government Area offices nationwide on critical processes for the 2023 population and housing census workflow.

The announcement is contained in a statement by the Director, of Public Affairs, NPC, Dr Isiaka Yahaya, who said that the purpose of the training is to equip comptrollers with the necessary skills required to discharge their duties effectively during the census exercise.
He added that the training will be practical-oriented.

The statement further indicated that the training which will run from Tuesday, 7th March 2023 to Thursday, 9th March 2023, will be conducted in two states for each geopolitical zone as follows.

The Northeast zone will be hosted in Gombe and Bauchi States.

North Central, including FCT, Plateau, Benue, Kogi and Niger states will be hosted in Nasarawa and Kwara States.
Southwest will be hosted in Oyo and Ondo States.

For South-south, including Akwa-Ibom, Cross Rivers, Bayelsa and Edo States will be hosted in Rivers and Delta States.
While Southeast, it will be hosted in Anambra and Ebonyi States.

Yahaya further stated that all the comptrollers will be trained on focus areas of the 2023 census processes by resource persons from various departments of the Commission.

“All the 774 comptrollers are expected to be trained on the focus areas of the 2023 census processes by 60 resource persons drawn from various departments of the commission.

“The topics include census methodology; presentation of the census frames and legality list; field operations and local government training ( supervisors and enumerators); data quality management; monitoring and evaluation.

“Enumeration of special populations; enumeration in hard-to-reach areas; recruitment and payment; tablets management; ICT infrastructure and management; census logistics; census security; public and advocacy; identification and assessment of the Internet connectivity gaps.

“Green census; legal framework for the 2023 census and administration of oath of secrecy; sexual exploitation; harassment and abuse; census PES; trial census experience; and the international best practice in census taking”, he said.

He reiterated the readiness of the Commission to conduct a nationally reliable and acceptable census to generate data critical to evidence-based development planning.
He urged Nigerians to make themselves available to be counted when the exercise begins.
