Former Anambra State Governor, Dame Virginia Etiaba has described the nomination of Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as Labour Party’s vice presidential candidate as divine.
Etiaba, the first female Governor in Nigeria, through her foundation, congratulated Baba-Ahmed who was officially unveiled as the running mate of Mr Peter Obi of Labour Party on Friday morning in Abuja.
The foundation in its statement described Baba-Ahmed as a detribalised Nigerian and saying his nomination was divine. The Dame Etiaba Foundation cited Baba-Ahmed as an academic, a businessman and an astute politician.
Baba-Ahmed was a member of the House of Representatives between 2003 and 2007, elected Senator for Kaduna North in Kaduna State in April 2011 – 2012 on the platform of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
Commenting on the achievements of Baba-Ahmed while in the national assembly, the foundation said he had “a remarkable record of the credit of sponsoring important legislations in a very short period in the National Assembly.”
The statement added “ He has distinguished himself as a banking officer with First Bank of Nigeria Plc, and had established Baze University in Abuja.
“Furthermore, Senator Baba-Ahmed is an accomplished philanthropist who was appointed as Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Hope Alive Foundation.
“Distinguished Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed remains a square peg in a square hole and once again, many congratulations to him on a most deserved nomination.”
