Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi on Monday, paid a courtesy visit to Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, the popular Islamic cleric in Kaduna State.
Obi and Yusuf Daati Baba-Ahmed, his running mate, visited the cleric in his official residence in Kaduna State.
In a post on his official Twitter handle, the Labour Party presidential candidate who went with his running mate to honour an invitation from the Arewa Joint Forum, said: “Dr Datti Baba-Ahmed and I stopped by for a courtesy call on Sheikh Gumi at his official residence in Kaduna.”
Gumi in response to the gesture said, “Beyond the 2023 elections, don’t let the Movement you have started to end.”
Meanwhile, the visit has generated mixed reactions, with some condemning it and others saying it is an act of building bridges of ethnic and religious tolerance.

He thanked the leadership and stakeholders of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation for their gracious invitation.
Speaking at the event, Obi said he is a Nigerian running for the Nigerian Presidency to serve every Nigerian.
He said: “I continue to insist on a show of respect for every candidate, ethnicity, religion and person.”
