Nigerian Anglican Priest Resigns, Pushes Polygamy

Rev. Barr. Ogbuchukwu Makuo Lotanna

In what would be perceived as an act of apostasy in the church where he has been holding forte as minister for years,  Anglican Priest, Rev. Barr Ogbuchukwu Makuo Lotanna of the Nnewi Diocese has resigned to float a movement that will promote polygamy.

Rev. Lotanna who hails from Mbanagu Otolo Nnewi in Nnewi North Local Council Area, Anambra State recently took the bold decision, claiming that he has received a divine mandate from God to embark on a special mission of encouraging polygamy.

According to him, the goal is to reduce the rate of s3xual sins in the world.

Most Christian churches teach against the concept of polygamy, a practice that encourages a man to marry more than one wife. It is regarded as a sin for a man to engage more than one woman in marital relationship.

Polygamy is practiced in different societies across the world where men marry as many wives as they can for procreation and s3xual satisfaction. The practice is however, outlawed in some countries.

The cleric stated that although the Anglican church is against polygamy, God has revealed to him that polygamy is not a sin, and that God desires men to even marry more than one wife, instead of going for other women they are not married to.

The clergy who is also a legal practitioner, was ordained an Anglican Priest in 2019, at Cathedral Church of St. Mary’s Uruagu, Nnewi.

Rev. Lotanna who is also married, said that God hates extra-marital affairs, and divorce, and urged men to formally marry their girlfriends to avoid going to hellfire at the end.

Speaking on his new movement, Lotanna said it will be called Gideonites while the place of worship will be called Gideonites’ Temple.

As at the time of writing this report, there is no official response yet from the Nnewi Anglican Diocese on the development.
