Nigeria Weightlifting President Lauds Delta State On Successful 2022 Sports Festival

 

The President, Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, NWF, Dr Abdul Aladi Ibrahim has commended the government and good people of Delta State for successfully hosting the 2022 National Sports Festival, NSF.

 

The 21st edition of the “Nigerian Olympics” came to a commendable climax on Sunday with closing ceremony at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, the state’s capital.

 

Delta State hosted and won the festival for a record extended four consecutive times with a total of 648 medals including 320 good, 200 silver and 128 bronze medals.

 

Dr Abdul who spent several days in Asaba before and during the festival, poured encomium on the Delta State Government for providing world standard sporting infrastructure for sports development in the state and the country.

 

He further eulogized the good people of the state for their hospitality, love and sportsmanship.

“There is no doubt that Delta was exceptional. The organisers were top of their games. The state government provided standard sporting infrastructure for this festival. They have set a standard that the next host state would work much harder to break.

 

“Asaba was a successful festival and I must also commend the good people of the state for their hospitality, love and brotherhood.

 

“This is one of the best National Sports Festival we have witnessed in recent years and it is an indication that continued improvement is being made by host states,” he said.

 

Dr Abdul further thanked the board of Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, the Technical Committee, the secretariat, coaches and athletes for their support and sportsmanship in ensuring the success of Weightlifting Events at the festival.

 

“Weightlifting Events were a huge success in Asaba. This is made possible by the active involvement and support of all stakeholders. The board, the technical committee, the secretariat, coaches and the athletes were all excellent. They showed passion and support and that was why we had a smooth, successful Weightlifting Events in Asaba.

 

“I thank everyone that made it possible and say congratulations to Delta State for being the overall champions in Weightlifting.

 

“It is my earnest prayer that God Almighty will grant all the athletes journey mercy back to their respective states,” he concluded.

 

Delta State emerged overall champion in weightlifting with a total of 47 medals. Oyo and Bayelsa States claimed 2nd and 3rd positions with 15 and 16 medals, respectively.

Izuchukwu Okosi

Okosi is a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Association of Voiceover Artistes of Nigeria (AVOA), Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). He has been part of cast in some Nollywood movies and radio dramas including Blood Money 2, Scores To Settle, Dead End 2, Another Campus Tale and Battle Line. Aside mainstream media and the entertainment industry, he has interests in scouting/unearthing of talents in the sports and creative sectors, exports business and property development.
