Musa: Ongoing AFCON 2021 In Cameroon Is My Last

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa has announced that the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon will be his last as he will no longer represent Nigeria at the tournament subsequently.

The forward will however be part of the team to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar should Nigeria qualify for the tournament which will hold 18 November and 21 December 2022.

Musa made this known during a press conference ahead of the Super Eagles’ opening fixture against Egypt on Tuesday.

The former CSKA Moscow player also said he has charged his teammates to win the the 2021 AFCON as a parting gift for him.

The skipper said: “I think this is my last AFCON Inshaa Allah.

“I have spoken to the boys that this is the only gift you can give to me because this is my last AFCON. And the boys told me that they are ready.

“My first AFCON was in South Africa in 2013 and we ended up winning it. And my second appearance was in Egypt and we won the bronze.”

Musa became the first Nigerian to score more than once in a FIFA World Cup match, after scoring twice against Argentina in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

He’s also the first Nigerian to score in two FIFA World Cup competitions, after scoring twice against Iceland in the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Nigeria reached the playoffs stages of the World Cup qualifiers after topping a group that contained Cape Verde, Liberia and Central Africa Republic.
