Macron In Pole Position For France Reelection As President Against Le Pen

French President Emmanuel Macron defeated his rival Marine Le Pen by a comfortable margin in Sunday’s election, early projections by four pollsters showed.

The first projections by Ifop, Elabe, Opinionway and Ipsos showed Macron securing 58.2%-57.6 of the vote. Ahead of the vote, polls had suggested Macron would win with 56%.

Victory for Macron will mean that he joins a small club of of two French presidents before him to have managed to secure a second term.

There has been a cold war between the camps of the presidential hopefuls who have been wooing voters by making comments about the supposed weaknesses of the other parties.

Macron’s camp believes that Le Pen is keen to pull France our of the European Union which the Iron Lady of France politics has vehemently denied.

On her part, Le Pwn has, pointed the rising cost of living in France especially since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.

However Macron’s margin of victory looks to be tighter and more competitive than when he first defeated Le Pen in 2017 die to rising cost of living in the country.

Le Pen had assured that she will ensure sharp cuts to fuel tax, zero-percent sales tax on essential items from pasta to diapers, income exemptions for young workers and a “French first” stance on jobs and welfare.
