There was an uneasy calmness Friday morning at the Lekki Toll gate with the scheduled reopening of tolling operations at the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge reports Prime Business Africa.
Lagos State government had earlier this week urged residents and stakeholders around Lekki and Ikoyi to show understanding, following the planned reopening of tolling operations at the toll plaza by the Lekki Concession Company Limited (LCC).
The tolling operations were halted following the October 2020 Endsars protests that saw several government facilities destroyed by irate youths including at the toll gate for what the protesters hinged on inhumane treatment of the citizens by the special Police department.
Prime Business Africa reports that there is heavy presence of government security forces at the toll plaza and Lekki-end of the bridge to ward off any possible violent crimes at the scene.
However as at 8am on Friday, the planned reopening of tolling operations was yet to begin with free flow of traffic along the route noticeable albeit reduced than usual.
The Lagos state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho, and his Transportation counterparts, Dr. Fredericks Oladeinde as well as Home Affairs, Prince Anofi Elegushi made a passionate appeal during a stakeholders’ meeting on Wednesday at the Lekki Coliseum in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos asking Lagosians to show understanding towards the government’s plans.
