Liverpool Beat AC Milan In Dubai Super Cup

Liverpool on Friday concluded their mid-season break with a 4-1 win over Serie A champions, AC Milan, in the Dubai Super Cup.

Having lost to Lyon earlier in the competition, the Reds were unable to return to competitive action with some silverware under their belts.

Jurgen Klopp will, however, be delighted to have posted a morale-boosting win over their old foes with Mohamed Salah, Thiago Alcantara and Darwin Nunez all getting on the score sheet – the latter netting twice during the closing stages.

While Alexis Saelemaekers had got Milan back on level terms in the first half, Liverpool were deserved winners at the Al-Maktoum Stadium.

In the penalty-shootout which took place to determine a bonus point, Kostas Tsimikas and Naby Keita both missed for Liverpool, allowing Milan to prevail 4-3 from 12 yards out.

On Saturday, English Premier League leaders Arsenal will face Serie A giants Juventus in their last Dubai Super Cup game.

The Gunners had defeated Lyon and AC Milan in their previous games of the mid season friendly tour.

The game against the ‘Old Lady’ will kick off 8pm Nigerian time on Saturday.

Many European clubs were involved in the mid-season friendlies in a bid to keep their teams in rip rip shape ahead of the return of the domestic leagues which had been on break because of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

With the World Cup final set to hold on Sunday, Premier League clubs have intensified preparations for the league restart on Boxing day.

Arsenal will play against West Ham United on thee rerun to league football as they seek to retain their dominance in the top-flight.

Arsenal are five points ahead of champions Manchester City while surprise package, Newcastle United are place third on the log.

Nottingham Forest, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton are struggling for life at the bottom of the league.
