Labour Party Dissolves Rivers State Executive Council

Four days to the governorship and State Assemblies elections, Labour Party (LP) has desolved its Rivers State Executive Council over alleged massive rigging that took place under its watch in the last poll.

This was disclosed by the Presidential Spokesperson of the Party, Dr Kenneth Okonkwo, in a statement released on Monday.

Okonkwo stated that the council was dissolved due to anti party activities and corruption in the management of Labour Party funds.

“The National Chairman believes that it’s in the interest of Labour Party and the Obidient movement in Rivers State that those who were at the helm of affairs in Rivers State when our presidential mandate was openly stolen in Rivers State should step aside until full investigation is completed on what happened on that day.

“The National Chairman has lost confidence in the ability of the compromised State Executive Council led by Mr Deinye Pepple to lead the campaign for the gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections come March 11th.

“He urges all Obidients in Rivers State to disregard every comment made by the disgraced State Chairman of the Labour Party, Deinye Pepple, on the election of March 11th and reiterates the full backing of the Labour Party on the candidacy of Comrade Beatrice Itubo of the Labour Party as the next Governor of Rivers State.

“He, therefore enjoins all Obidients to come out massively on March 11th to vote for Comrade Beatrice Itubo of the Labour Party,” Okonkwo said.

The dissolution of the LP’s executive council in Rivers State might not be unconnected with the endorsement of the  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  governorship candidate in the state, Sim Fubara, for the 11th March election.

The Rivers Chairman of LP, Dienye Pepple, said the decision was taken in the interest of equity, fairness and balance in the State.

Pepple, who led other leaders of the party to endorse Fubara in Port Harcourt, explained that Fubara’s Southeast Senatorial District was yet to produce a Governor in Rivers.

He said all LP members and Obi-dient Movement had resolved to cast their votes for Fubara for the progress and development of the state.
