Former Lawmaker, Dino Melaye has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the November 11 governorship election in Kogi State.
This was announced by Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi, the chairman of the PDP primary election committee shortly after the primary election held in Lokoja on Sunday.
Makarfi said that Melaye who represented Kogi West at the National Assembly, scored 313 votes to defeat his closest rival, Ilona Idoko-Kingsley who scored 124 votes. Usman Mohammed Kabiru polled 121 votes to take third position, while Abayomi Awoniyi, a former deputy governor, scored 77 votes.
Other contestants are Wada Musa, who scored 56 votes; Ojaja Enama, who scored 5, and Olufemi Olarewaju who scored 2 votes.
Melaye, who was one of the spokespersons of the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation will slug it out with Usman Ododo, the governorship of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the contestants of other political parties for the election.
