Kanu Trial Adjourned Till April 8, 2022

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja has adjourned trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to April 8, 2022.

At the proceeding which commenced by 1 pm today, justice Nyako said the next trial will commence by 2 pm.

Kanu’s defence team wanted Nyako to bring the date forward, which was objected as the judge said she needed more time to study the submissions made by one of the members of the defence counsel team, Chief Mike Ozekhome before concluding the case.

Ozehome had filed an application challenging the charges against Kanu, insisting that the application be heard first before the court proceed with the trial.

He demanded that Kanu be discharged and acquitted, arguing that the charges against him have no legal basis.

The defence team also filed an application for bail, which the prosecution counsel said needed to be looked into.

At the sitting, Kanu appeared on same old clothing against the instruction of justice Nyako during the last sitting for him to be allowed to change his cloth while appearing in court.

Nyako queried why officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) did not obey his instruction on that. In response, Kanu’s defence team said the officers refused to allow him wear any of the clothes brought for him.

Ozekhome recently took over as leader of the Kanu’s defence team
