Kano APC Crisis: Buhari Supports No Faction, Says Presidency

The Presidency has countered a public statement by one of the factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, that they have received the endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari.

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity, Garba Shehu, described it as “blatantly untrue,” saying that the president “has not endorsed any faction.”

He added that the president only supports a United APC not a faction, warning that none of the factions should make claims of being endorsed.

He said, “The Presidency wishes to counter a public statement by one of the factions of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State, that they have received the endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“This is blatantly untrue. This cannot happen when matters are awaiting adjudication by the courts.

“To be clear on this one, President Buhari has not endorsed any faction.

“His support is for the All Progressives Congress as a Party, united and strong, and not of any faction.”

APC Kano State chapter has in recent times been embroiled in crisis leading to formation of factions, one loyal to the governor, Abdulahi Ganduje and the other loyal to Ibrahim Shakarau. This is culminated in a factional party congress on October 18 in the state.

Late last month, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had declared the Shekarau group as the authentic executives of the APC in Kano, forcing the Ganduje group to recognise it.
