JAMB Cancels General Benchmark For Admission

THE Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cancelled the general cut-off mark for admission into tertiary institutions in the country.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede announced that JAMB is giving all tertiary institutions the freedom to set their minimum benchmarks for admission.

He made this known in a virtual policy meeting, chaired by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, where he said different institutions across the country could have different cut-off marks
for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Oloyede said it was also agreed at the meeting that the maximum score a candidate could present for direct entry (DE) was 6 and the minimum score was  2 or E.

He said stakeholders at the meeting could not reach an agreement on the deadline for closing admissions, but handed the decision over to the ministry of education.

As at 2020, JAMB’s cut-off mark for universities was 160, 120 for polytechnics and 100 for colleges of education.
