Investors In Transcorp, Unilever, Others Pocket N130 billion

Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) reported on Tuesday, 23 May, that the stock market valuation increased by N130 billion or 0.48 per cent.

NGX said the stock market capitalisation rose from N28.52 trillion to N28.65 trillion. 

The All-Share Index appreciated to 52,621.19 ASI after gaining 252.06 basis points. The previous day, the stock market closed at 52,369.13 ASI.

On Tuesday, equity traders exchanged 350.97 million shares, worth N8.20 billion, in 5,946 deals. 

Note that the day before, they traded 315.69 million shares in 5,846 deals, valued at N4.03 billion. 

Top five gainers

  • Transcorp’s share appreciated by N0.26kobo to rise from N2.64kobo to N2.90kobo per share.
  • Tripple Gee grew by N0.29kobo, up from N2.95kobo to N3.24kobo per share.
  • Unilever ended trading with N14.70kobo from N13.40kobo per share, rising by N1.30kobo.
  • UPL gained N0.18kobo to end trading at N2.05, having opened with N1.87kobo per share.
  • Chams’ stock was up by 9.38 per cent, closing at N0.35kobo from N0.32kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • Chellaram depreciated by N0.18kobo, dwindling from N1.81kobo to N1.63kobo per share.
  • Sunu Assurance also fell by 9.43 per cent to end trading at N0.48kobo, after opening at N0.53kobo per share.
  • C&I Leasing followed the same path, losing N0.31kobo after trading hours, to sell at N3.20kobo from N3.51kobo per share.
  • Japaul Gold reported a decline of 5.71 per cent from the previous day’s share price of N0.35kobo to end trading at N0.33kobo per share.
  • Cadbury’s share depreciated to N16.40kobo from N17.35kobo, after losing N0.95kobo during trading hours.

Top five trading equities in the stock exchange

  • UBA reported 62.44 million shares, valued at N511.06 million, were traded on its floor.
  • Zenith Bank recorded 58.99 million shares valued at N1.58 billion.
  • GTCO saw investors trade 31.70 million of its shares valued at N875.10 million.
  • Access Corporation recorded 19.47 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N203.07 million.
  • Transcorp reported 17.80 million shares, valued at N50.10 million, exchanged investors’ hands.
