INSECURITY: Archbishops, Bishops Declare Prayer For Igbo Land On Monday

Representatives of Igbo Archbishops and Bishops on Peace and Conflict Resolution after a protracted meeting on the night of  April 1, have recommended  prayers for the entire Igbo land on Monday April 4, 2022.

The post-meeting communique titled: ”A Day of Prayer in Ala Igbo – Monday, 4th April, 2022,” cited as reasons ”wide-spresd insecurity, the continuing and widening destruction of lives and property, and the socio-economic disruption this has caused in our country and particularly in ala Igbo.”

the Bishops called on all Igbos home and abroad to join the prayers.

The communique was signed by the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri, Most Reverend Dr Anthony J.V. Obinna, Anglican Archbishop of Enugu, Most Rev. Dr Emmanuel O. Chukwuma, OON; Methodist Archbishop of Umuahia and Secretary of the group, Most Rev. Dr Chibuzo R. Okpoko; Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Reverend Dr Valerian M. Okeke; Past Principal Clerk Presbyterian Church Nigeria, Most Rev. Dr Uma A. Onwunta; Bishop Obi Onubogu of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria; and Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the Southeast, Reverend Dr Abraham Nwali.

A breakdown of the outcomes of the meeting that lasted until midnight, noted that such a  prayer for the entire Ala Igbo should involve all Igbos where ever they reside in the world. ”We resolved to passionately request that all be involved in this prayer the same time, the same date,” a breakdown of the communique signed by Rev. Okpoko as secretary hinted.

”For those of us in volatile areas, we can motivate our congregants to join in praying where ever they are at 11 am. We requested that the churches’ bell should toll by 10.58 am in all our churches where they have bells installed.

”For all  those in Anambra, they are encouraged to come out en mass to their different churches on Monday 4th April 2022. As leaders, we are to take proactive safety actions by employing any approach that suits our area. Let the world know that we are praying together where ever we are in the global village. God be with us. Maranatha.”
