INEC Vow To Improve On Anambra Election.

AHEAD of the 2023 general elections, Chairman Voters Information and Education Committee of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr. Festus Okoye, has promised Nigerians that INEC will improve its performance.

Okoye, on Wednesday explained that INEC experienced some difficulties with the Bimodal Voter accreditation System (BVAS)  in the first election on the 6th of November.

“We had challenges putting the BVAS to use on Nov. 6, but for the supplementary election, there were lots of improvements to the functionality of the BVAS. The implication is that we have control in relation to what is going on and we have the capacity to address some of those challenges.

“We are going to sit down with our Information and Communication Technology (ICT) personnel and some of our consultants to take a second look at the functionality of the BVAS. We had three of the BVAS consignments and the challenge was with one of the consignments. Our engineers were at some of the registration areas on the election day and rectified some of the faults and the BVAS started working well,” he said

Speaking about the 2023 general elections, Okoye said “What we will do is to identify challenges and deal with them.

“Come 2023, we will have so many by-elections as well as so many off-season elections and we are assuring Nigerians that we will attend to most of these problems before the general elections.”
