INEC Removes House Majority Leader, Doguwa’s Name From Reps-elect List

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has removed the name of the embattled House of Representatives Majority leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, from the list of Reps-elect.

Professor Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai, the returning officer, announced that Doguwa of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was the winner of the Doguwa/Tudunwada constituency election on Saturday, 15^th 2023.

He polled 39,732 votes to defeat his closest rival, Yushau Salisu Abdullahi of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), who polled 34,798 votes.

However, Doguwa’s name was removed from the newly released list of members-elect.

INEC, however, noted at the remark session that his declaration was made under pressure.

The returning officer from Bayero University, Kano, could be seen reading out the results with a fearful voice in a viral video.

Furthermore, the Police authorities declared that the lawmaker has been captured at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on Tuesday.

Recall that the lawmaker was earlier arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court on murder-related charges.

However, counsel to the accused, Nureini Jimoh (SAN), brought an ex parte application before Justice Muhammad Nasir Yunusa of the Federal High Court on Monday to grant the accused bail based on the magistrate court’s alleged violation of his fundamental human rights and lack of jurisdiction.

At the end of the hearing, Justice Yunusa granted him bail on the condition that the suspect provides two sureties, one of whom must be a first-class traditional ruler and the other a permanent secretary in the federal or state civil service.

The Judge further directed that the suspect deposit his travel documents with the Court registry, which can be released upon request if travel is required. When you return from your trip, refrain resubmit your documents.

The Court also ordered that the legislator refrains from visiting his constituents during the upcoming gubernatorial and state house of assembly elections.
