INEC Certainly Has Something To Hide – LP Spokesperson, Okonkwo

The Labour Party, (LP) presidential campaign spokesman, Kenneth Okonkwo, has stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) certainly has something to hide about the just concluded presidential election.

Okonkwo disclosed this via his official Twitter handle on Tuesday. He was reacting to the statement by the INEC national chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, that the Commission “have nothing to hide.”

Prof Mahmood made the comment during his meeting with the legal team of the Labour Party, who are seeking access to the materials used in the conduct of the presidential election on 25th February 2023.

Okonkwo queried why the INEC boss has not been able to provide evidence of the results he announced about two weeks ago, but was able to get a court order and reconfigured the BVAS for 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory in about three days.

He said: “It took Mahmood’s INEC about three days to reconfigure the BVAS from 34 States and the FCT after the court’s order to reconfigure, but it has not been able to provide evidence of the result it announced almost two weeks after the announcement.”

The LP presidential spokesman further explained that the law stated that INEC can only announce results only if the results are collected and uploaded to National Electronic Register from all the polling units.

He added that the law required him to have the electronic register by his side before the announcement of the result in order to confirm the authenticity of the result.

He urged all Nigerians to continue to be vigilant in prayer for God to bring their antics to nothing and finally give the citizens the new Nigeria they laboured for.
