I’m Not Desperate To Be President, But Eager For Prosperous Country – Obi

As the news of the exit of Mr. Peter Obi from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) few days ago continues to cause ripples in the political space, he has stated that he is not desperate to be a president of Nigeria.

The former governor of Anambra State said he is, however, desperate about seeing the country become prosperous one.

Obi stated this in an interview at Channels Television Politics Today programme, some hours after joining the Labour Party.

Prime Business Africa had reported that Obi has officially joined Labour Party to continue pursuing his political ambition of becoming the president to offer quality leadership to the country.

Obi said he didn’t dump PDP but simply left when he felt things weren’t going the way they should. He noted that political parties are associations that people are free to join and leave anytime they wish.

Speaking on his choice of Labour Party, Obi said it is in line with his aspiration and “mantra of taking the country from consumption to production.”

His words, “I’m not desperate to be president, I’m only desperate to see Nigeria work especially for the youths of this country.

“I have moved on to where I think the process will allow me… like I have earlier said, it’s not about winning or losing. I would rather lose doing the right thing than win doing the wrong thing.

“My politics have been consistent in character and integrity throughout the time I started.”

He said he would seek the ticket of LP to contest in the presidential election.
