Ikpeba Knocks Chelsea On Transfer Business, Aubameyang’s Treatment

Chelsea will struggle to blend their array of expensive players who arrived the club this January, former Nigeria international, Victor Ikpeba has said on Monday.

Ikpeba who was the 1997 African Footballer of The Year award winner bared his thoughts on Monday Night Football, a magazine show on Dstv.

Ikpeba who was affectionately called ‘The King of Monaco’ following his exploits in the Ligue 1 during his playing days also wondered why Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang has become out of favour at the club despite his immense quality.

“It’s a new environment for them (Chelsea) spending £107m for a World Cup champions at that age,” Ikpeba asked in reference to the arrival of Enzo Fernandez from Portuguese side, Benfica in what became a British record transfer fee.

“What can he change? Is he better than Jorginho or Ngolo Kante that they had before. I don’t think that Graham Potter is the right manager for this Chelsea side.”

Chelsea, currently placed 9th in the Premier League log with 30 points, will face West Ham United in the topflight.

Ikpeba however believes that 2015 African Footballer of The Year winner who was omitted from the Blues’ UEFA Champions League.

“I have my doubts, I have worries. A team that has Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. I don’t understand why he doesn’t play.

“Kai Havertz, with due respect to him, is not a striker. He can play from the wings.

“There’s a lot of confusion going around at the club. I think things has been been badly. I don’t know how Chelsea will run of wins from the problems that they are on right now,” Ikpeba went on.

Chelsea’s next Premier League fixture is against West Ham United before they jet off to Morocco to defend their title at the FIFA Club World Cup.
