IGP Orders Express Prosecution Of Activist For Manhandling Police Orderly In Abuja

Apparently concerned about the viral video showing a female police orderly who was beaten to a pulp by the servants of her principal, an Abuja-based activist, Prof. Zainab Duke Abiola, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has ordered the express prosecution of the suspects.

The video showed the female police officer identified as Inspector Teju Moses sitting with her face dripping with blood, pleading to be taken to hospital due to the heavy biting she has received.

It was gathered that the police officer was attached to Prof. Mrs. Duke Abiola, a legal practitioner and human rights activist residing at Area 10 Garki Abuja.

The activist was said to have ordered her domestic staff to bit up the officer on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, for refusing to carry out menial and domestic chores in the house.
It was said that Prof. Duke urged her servants comprising one Rebecca Enechido and a male to beat up the officer that nothing will happen.

A statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Thursday stated that the IGP who strongly condemned the grievous assault of the female police officer, ordered that suspects who have been arrested should be expeditiously prosecuted once investigations into the matter is concluded.

“The IGP has directed the express prosecution of the arrested suspects who are currently in Police custody, as the preliminary investigation shows overwhelming evidence of culpability on the part of the Professor and her domestic staff.

“The IGP has equally tasked the investigative team to ensure that the fleeing suspect is arrested and made to face the wrath of the law,” Adejobi stated.

He also pointed out that the suspect Prof. Duke who name-dropped the IG, his family members, and other officers in the top hierarchy of the Force, had no acquaintance with the police in any form as“being erroneously peddled on social media.”

The force spokesperson also indicated that the IGP has ordered withdrawal of all police personnel attached to the professor, and “expressed consternation at the fact that an individual who claims to be an advocate for human rights could stoop so low to violate the rights of another individual, a police officer tasked with ensuring her protection.”
