HURIWA Condemns Reports Of High COVID-19 Cases In NYSC Camps

THE Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria has countered the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed over his claims of high rate of COVID-19 cases in NYSC camps across the country.

The group said precautionary measures had been adopted by the management of the NYSC  to keep corp members safe from all infections.

According to the group, there are functional clinics equipped with test kits in all orientation camps.

The group asked the minister to stop spreading what it described as fake news.

HURIWA said the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Adenike Adeyemi, had debunked the false information of any COVID-19 positive cases in the 37 orientation camps nationwide.

Mohammed had on Wednesday, said the number of COVID-19 cases was on the increase in NYSC camps across the country, adding that the number of cases was far more than what was reported to the general public.

HURIWA disclosed that the fictitious claims by the minister was what called for the suspension of camp activities.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, during the commissioning of an ultra-modern clinic inside NYSC Ondo State Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko on Thursday, also noted that the well-being of corp members remained a key policy of the NYSC Scheme.

Ibrahim described corp members as “critical national asset that must be taken care of.”
