Govt Wants Nigerians To Shun Insecurity, Visit Tourism Sites At Sallah

The rising spate of terror attacks not withstanding, including an attack on the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) jet fighter on Sunday, the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) wants Nigerians to visit hospitality and tourism sites as part of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

It called on Nigerians to use the period of the Sallah to experience the hospitality and tourism establishments in the country.

This came as the Nigerian army said its troops of the Operation Hadin Kai eliminated three Boko Haram terrorists and arrested scores of their fighters, informants and logistics suppliers in recent encounters in the North East theatre of operation.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

Nwachukwu said the troops of 151 Task Force Battalion eliminated the terrorists in an ambush operation on their crossing point along Banki Junction – Miyanti road, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

He also disclosed that troops had on July 15, arrested some suspected terrorists who surrendered to troops along with their families, while fleeing their enclaves, following continuous bombardment of their hideouts by troops of the Battalion.

According to him, the escaping terrorists and their families were arrested at the outskirts of Aza and Bula Daloye villages in Bama local Government area of Borno by troops of the Battalion on fighting patrol at Miyanti and Darajamel.

The Director-General of NTDC, Mr Folorunsho Coker, who made the call in Abuja on Monday, said as Muslim faithful join the rest of the world to celebrate Sallah, there was need for them to visit the hospitality and tourism establishments such as hotels, restaurants, museums, recreational and other tourist centres.

According to him, these will go a long way in promoting our tourism sector as well as boosting the nation’s economy.

“Nigerians know the advantage they have because we are the most populous black African nation. We have the largest concentration of black people in the world.

“To miss Nigeria is like to miss tomorrow, but to see Nigeria today with the concentration of people, technology, and activities is to see tomorrow. So, tour Nigeria, see tomorrow,” he said.

The director-general, who thanked the  Almighty Allah for witnessing the 2021 Eid-li-Kabir, urged Muslims to observe the celebration as prescribed by the Holy Quran.
