Former Super Eagles Head Coach Rohr Keen On Black Stars Job

The Ghana Football Association, GFA, are hopeful of beating Nigeria to the 2022 FIFA World Cup ticket and could be devising an ingenious means to get one better than their west African rivals.

Former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr who was sacked by the Nigeria Football Federation in December 2021 has shown interest in takng over from Milovan Rajevac and the GFA might acquiesce to his wishes.

Rajevac was relieved of his duty after Ghana crashed out of the tournament in the first round.

Reliable Ghana news outlet, Ghana Web on Friday claims a source close to Rohr has revealed that the Franco-German would be interested in taking the Ghana job.

“Gernot (Rohr) is very much open to the Ghana job. Ghana football has great potential and his experience of the African game will help him steer the team in the right direction,” the source told Ghana Web.

“His knowledge of African football is deep especially with West African teams. Besides Nigeria, he also handled Burkina Faso and the Niger Republic. Rohr also had a stint with Gabon in 2017. He has now the quality to handle the Black Stars.

“Gernot achieved FIFA World Cup qualification with Nigeria in 2018 and is keen on guiding Ghana to the 2022 edition. Ghana has big-name players like Andre Ayew, Thomas Partey, Daniel Amartey amongst others who are hungry to play at the FIFA World Cup and Gernot can help turn that dream into a reality.”

Ghana has been drawn to face Nigeria in the FIFA World Cup playoffs with the first leg slated for Baba Yara Stadium on March 23 while the second leg is fixed for March 29 at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Gernot Rohr led the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
