FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup: Super Falconets Pip France In Group C Clash

Nigeria U-20 Women’s football team, the Falconets defeated European champions France 1-0 in their opening Group C game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in San Jose, Costa Rica in the early hours of Friday reports Prime Business Africa.

Flourish Sabastine scored Nigeria’s only goal in the game in the 85th minute with aplomb after she pounced on a great pass from Esther Idoko.

The game was called off after only 20 minutes due to bad weather as windy conditions and heavy rainfall disrupted the flow of the match ball.

The match resumed after about one hour later albeit there were still some rainfall, this time the match officials considered the playing pitch good enough for the match.

Before Nigeria scored, the French side had a goal overruled five minutes earlier after Video Assistant Referee(VAR) ruled that the Les Blues’ had commited a foul in the buildup.

Nigeria were finalists in the 2010 and 2014 editions of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup losing to Germany on both occasions. They were semifinalists in 2012.

Nigeria’s next game comes up 9pm Nigerian time on Sunday against South Korea.
