Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team the Flamingos on Friday evening were rewarded with the sum of N2.1 million by a club owner and philanthropist following the 4-3 win over USA after penalty shootout in the first quarterfinals of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India.
The game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes with Omamuzo Edafe scoring from the penalty spot in the 27th minute before Amalia Villarreal equalised for the Americans five minutes before the halftime break.
Barrister Paul Edeh is the President of The Ratels Sports Development Foundation (RSDF) and proprietor of Naija Ratels Football Club of Abuja and has bee one of the strongest pillars of the team.
The current Flamingos also have some of his players in the national team and he has once again showed his commitment towards inspiring the young ladies to great things.
Prime Business Africa scooped that Barrister Edeh supported the team with the sum of N1.7 million during the qualification stages and how latest N2.1 million donation brings the total of his donations to N3.8 million with the pledge of N3 million should they make it to the final.
“Beating USA and reaching the semi-final stage of a World Cup for the first time is a no mean feat. This is highly commendable and I implore the team to do more.
“We are so impressed with your performance and I know many Nigerians will still do well to appreciate you more. Just remain focused,” the club owner told the team.
The Nigerian side will next week Wednesday face the winner of the Colombia versus Tanzania game on Saturday.
