Justice Taiwo Oladipupo Taiwo in a judgment that further buttressed the fairness of the election in Anambra state described the suit as lacking merit and a waste of the court’s time.
Oladipupo awarded a punitive cost of N2M against the two plaintiffs Adindu Valentine and Egwudike Chukwuebuka who filed the case through their lawyer Kelvin Okoko. The sum is to be paid to Prof. Soludo and his deputy, Mr Ibezim
Soludo polled a total of 112,229 votes to claim victory ahead of Peoples Democratic Party’s Valentine Ozigbo won 53,807 votes, while the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, came third with 43,285.
Anambra has a total of 2,466,638 registered voters, while 253,388 were accredited for the election.
The plaintiffs in the suit alleged that the onetime Chief Economic Adviser to the administration of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Soludo, submitted false information to election arbitrar INEC in his form EC9 by not establishing he was contesting for the position in Anambra state.
Voting was extended by two days in Anambra state to allowing people exercise their franchise in Ihiala Local Government Area, which was the only local government where elections did not hold on November 6.
