FA Suspends Liverpool Manager Klopp For Two Matches

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has received a two-match ban for comments he made about referee Paul Tierney after his side’s 4-3 victory over Tottenham on April 30.

It means the German will miss Sunday’s match against Aston Villa at Anfield.

The second game is suspended until the end of the 2023-24 season, providing Klopp does not commit any further breaches in that time.

Klopp suggested Tierney has “something against” the Reds after the Spurs game.

The German has also received a £75,000 fine having admitted he regretted making the controversial comments.

Five heavyweight contracts are set to expire at Liverpool this summer, signalling the dawn of a new era at Anfield.

Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, and Arthur’s departures offer both a financial breather and an opportunity to infuse fresh talent into the squad.

An official announcement on Wednesday saw the Reds officially confirm the imminent departures of Firmino, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Milner. The termination of Arthur’s loan deal, without triggering the £32.3 million option to buy, marks another critical decision by the club.

Detailed insights from Spotrac highlight a weekly wage liberation of £480,000 with Firmino (£180,000), Keita (£120,000), Oxlade-Chamberlain (£120,000) and Milner (£60,000) leaving the squad.

The loan deal with Arthur, who rakes in £110,000 weekly at Juventus, leaves an additional £55,000. There’s still a chance that Adrian (£58,000 per week) might also depart, further freeing the wage bill.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United host fellow Premier League high-flyers Brighton & Hove Albion at St James’ Park this evening looking to press home their claim to Champions League football.

A win on Tyneside this evening would put the Magpies four points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool with just two games of the top flight season left to play. It would also all but end the Seagulls’ charge towards the CL places and go some way to cementing third place as their own.
