Enugu Guber: Court Cancels LP Candidate Edoga’s Nomination

Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday, cancelled the Labour Party primary election that nominated Chjioke Edoga as gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 general election in Enugu State.

Captain Evarest Nnaji also known as Odengene had filed a suit in court challenging the emergence of Edoga as the governorship candidate of Labour Party, a situation that created controversy over who is the authentic candidate of the party in the state.

The duo left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after the May 25, 2022 primary election where Edoga lost out to Peter Mbah in what many in the state fingered the incumbent governor as being behind the outcome.

Nnaji in the suit, claimed that he was unlawfully excluded from the Labour Party governorship primaries.

Justice Nkonye Evelyn Maha who gave the judgement on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, held the party failed to provide evidence of notice of the August 4 primary election which would have made all the governorship aspirants of the party participate in the election.

Justice Maha therefore, ordered the party to conduct fresh governorship primaries to produce candidate within 14 days.
