Entrepreneur Hails Women Leading Top Nigerian Banks

Sonola Ademide Adeoye, an entrepreneur and owner of Mide Interiors, has hailed women heading some of the top Nigerian banks, saying it is a great feat that deserves commendations.

The Lagos-based business woman said women particularly have been climbing their way to the top in order to make name for themselves, create legacy and also be a blueprint to other women.

She said this in a chat on the emerging trend of women leading top Nigerian banks with this Prime Business Africa reporter.

“The world is changing, so is everyone changing and striving to become better versions of who they are, because the world is dynamic,” Adeoye said.

She added that “women heading Nigeria banks is a great feat, no woman waits for their man to bring anything to the table, they rather contribute by going out to shake great walls”.

Adeoye said that women can take over the business space in the world through their innovations and skills.

“Look at female entrepreneurs today, look at them everywhere, coming up with great ideas, mind blowing innovations and creativity, gone are the days when you learn a skill and all you can think about is opening a shop, now, women register their businesses, they stand as a corporate entity in their businesses and it adds value to them”, she said.

According to the entrepreneur,  women are not pressured to do anything for themselves, rather they are driven by goals and aspirations.

“In my point of view, I don’t think women are pressured to do anything for themselves, if you have a vision, you must be on a mission to achieve that goal. Besides, I think most women went to read their bible very well where the part where “women help your husbands” come in. I feel they just want to help their husbands in ways that they can”, Adeoye said.

Recall that Prime Business Africa, on Wednesday, reported that Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) appointed Miriam Olusanya as their Managing Director, making her the first female MD of the bank since its establishment 1990.

Her appointment brought to fore other women who have been appointed to head some other banks in the country. Some other notable names include Yemisi Edun of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe of Fidelity Bank, Ireti Samuel-Ogbu of Citibank Nigeria, Halima Buba of SunTrust Bank and Tomi Somefun of Unity Bank.

Another woman in the banking sector worth mentioning is Aisha Ahmad, who rose from substantial posts in many banks to become a Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
