Elizabeth Truss: Gallant, Beautiful New ‘Thatcher’ At 10 Downing Street

The media have been awash with different remarks regarding emergence of a new  United Kingdom Prime Minister, Elizabeth Truss. She will take over the reins of power from Boris Johnson who will be bowing out today with an expected lack-lustre resignation letter to the Queen.

Commentators in France have called her the Iron Weathercock. Italy’s Corriere della Sera compared her to the Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher. When asked whether she models herself on the former prime minister, she said “I don’t accept that, I am my own person”.uss

All this remarks is because of her strong views on the part played by the UK on Europe politics.

Born Elizabeth Mary Truss in July 26 1975 to John Kenneth and Priscilla Mary Truss, She is 47. She was born in Oxford England and did her primary education in Scotland before attending secondary school in Leeds in England.

Liz Truss studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Merton College, Oxford. This was where she was a liberal Democrat. She was president of Oxford University Liberal Democrats and a member of the national executive committee of Liberal Democrat Youth and Students till she graduated in 1996 and also became a conservative in the same year.

After university she worked as an accountant for Shell, and Cable & Wireless, and married fellow accountant Hugh O’Leary in 2000.

She’s worked for three former prime ministers. David Cameron where she was environment Secretary, Theresa May, Justice Secretary and Boris Johnson where she worked as Foreign Secretary.

Liz Truss is the UK’s 56th prime minister and the third female prime minister to lead the country. The previous female Prime ministers – Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May – were also from the Conservative Party.

She won the conservative election vote beating former Chancellor Rishi Sunak winning by about 21,000 votes.

She has had strong opinions on some issues affecting Europe and the United Kingdom and she has made these issues her policy when she enters office.

Liz has ruled out energy rationing this winter, pledging instead to increase energy supply even though experts have said rationing is what the UK needs to deal with biting energy crises in Europe.

“I will be looking across the board to make sure we’re increasing [energy] supply and therefore dealing with the root cause of the issue rather than just putting a sticking plaster on,” she said. “But I would absolutely be looking to act on business energy costs.”

She has also ruled out a further windfall tax to pay for the cost of living support for struggling families and also Truss ruled out new taxes and rejected the introduction of an additional windfall tax on oil and gas companies that have recorded profits this year.

On immigration she plans to fully implement the government’s Rwanda policy, explore similar partnerships with other countries, and push for reforms to the ECHR so it “works better” for Britain. She said she’ll increase the UK’s frontline border force by 20 percent and double the border force’s maritime staffing levels.

Though she argued against the UK living the European Union block in 2016, she later changed her mind and became a huge supporter of Brexit saying “massive economic problems” she feared Britain would face on its own had “not come to pass.

As she meets the Queen to be sworn in today, she would be the 15th Prime Minister of Britain that has been sworn in by Queen Elizabeth the Second. Gallantly beautiful, Elizabeth Truss will be matching into 10 Downing Street today as, perhaps, a new  ‘Margaret Thatcher.’  Maybe, a new dawn at Downing Street
