DSS Denies Invading CBN, Says Reports Fake, Misleading

Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN),Mr Godwin Emefiele, on Monday resumed duties after weeks of vacation abroad. This comes as the Department of State Services (DSS) said it did not invade the central bank as reported by some media organisations.
Dr Peter Afunanya of the DSS’ Public Relations unit, in a statement sent to Prime Business Africa on Monday evening, described as ‘fake’ and ‘misleading’ reports alleging that the DSS had invaded the CBN and taken over Emefiele’s office.
“The attention of the Department of State Services has been drawn to the false news making the round that its operatives invaded the Central Bank of Nigeria and arrested its Governor, today 16/1/23. This is fake news and quite misleading,” Afuanaya said in a terse statement.

Meanwhile, the CBN, in an earlier statement confirmed that Emefiele had resumed duty on Monday, January 16, 2023 following concerns over his absence since the beginning of the year.

The CBN, in the statement, said that Emefiele “remains committed to performing the task before him in line with his oath of office and the policy direction of President Muhammadfu Buhari.

“While thanking the public for keeping faith with the bank, we urge Nigerians to continue to support the policies of the Bank aimed at ensuring a stable financial system and the Nigerian economy in general.”
