Commonwealth Games:Team Nigeria Ready For Medals Rush On Sunday

Nigeria’s representatives at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham will today seek to improve on their medals standing in the quadrennial sporting events reports Prime Business.

The Games officially comes to a close on Monday, August 8.

Favour Ofili added a silver medal to the country’s haul Saturday night which sees Nigeria leap to sixth place in the medal table when she clocked 22.51 seconds to finish behind Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah who ran a record 22.02 seconds.

 

 

At 10.25am on Sunday morning, Tobi Amusan will compete in the final of the Women’s 100m Hurdles.

Team Nigeria will be in action by 12.40pm when the Men’s 4x100m relay final will hold while the women will be in action 14 minutes later in their version of the 4x100m relay.

Later in the evening at exactly 7.05pm, the duo of Ese Brume and Ruth Usoro will be gunning for glory as they attempt to win medals in the final of the Women’s Long jump.

Boxing will take centrestage at 7.15pm when the 54kg – 57kg fights are expected to hold.

Elizabeth Oshoba will fight Scottish Michaela Walsh in the women’s fight while Tajudeen Agunbiade will engage Ross Wilson in the men’s final at 9pm.

Chinecherem Nnamdi will fly Nigeria’s flag in the Men’s Javelin final at 7.40pm.

At 8.30pm, the Men’s 4x400m relay final will take place while the women will be in action 30 minutes later.

Izuchukwu Okosi

Izuchukwu Okosi is a Nigerian sports and entertainment journalist with two decades of experience in the media industry having begun his media journey in 2002 as an intern at Mundial Sports International (MSI) and Africa Independent Television (AIT), owners of Daar Communications Plc. He has been part of cast in some Nollywood movies and radio dramas including Blood Money 2, Scores To Settle, Dead End 2, Another Campus Tale and Battle Line. Aside mainstream media and the entertainment industry, he has interests in scouting/unearthing of talents in the sports and creative sectors, exports business and property development.
