Edourd Mendy was the star of the show as Chelsea pipped a resilient Brentford 1-0 to reclaim their position atop the English Premier League on Saturday evening.
Left back Ben Chilwell struck a fierce shot in the stoppage time to hand the Blues their only goal of the game.
Brentford who have claimed some scalps in their Premier League bow fought vigorously to get an equaliser in the second half and even hit the crossbar but they were stoutly resisted by a disciplined Chelsea side whose goalkeeper Edourd Mendy oriduced some magnificent saves to ensure victory.
The win sees Chelsea garner 19 points, a point adrift of Liverpool who earlier today romped to a 5-0 hiding of Watford.
Meanwhile champions Manchester City defeated Burnley 2-0 in a one-sided contest that has always gone the way of Pep Guardiola’s men.
