Caleb University Catches Them Young, Debuts Debate Competition For College Students

One of the foremost private universities in Nigeria, Caleb University, Imota, Lagos, has concluded plans to launch a debate competition, capped, “National Intellectual Development Programme 2022 (NIDP),” for secondary school students to help develop their intellectual capacity and cognitive skills.

Themed “Stand Out,” the debate and career-oriented initiative hopes to engage 2,000 SS2 and SS3 students from 100 Secondary Schools drawn from the six geopolitical zones of the Federal Republic of Nigeria – South East, South South, South West, North East, North West and North Central.

In a statement signed by Olawale Adekoya, Information, Media and Publication Specialist, Caleb University, the institution affirmed that the competition will make way for students’ capacity building and networking, across board.

Adekoya said: “The 2,000 direct participants, along with the millions in the global virtual audience, who joins via www.calebuniversity.edu.ng will have the golden opportunity to explore career pathways, discover new opportunities and connect directly with student leaders, scholars, statesmen and Captains of Industry.”

“The Debate and Career Expo 2022 also has the overarching goal of producing dynamic students who are proficient in the 5 “Cs” of 21st century innovative skills of debating, which include critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and consciousness, driven by the Core Values of Caleb University,” he noted.

Also, the Caleb’s information and media manager announced: “The winners of the Inaugural Edition of the competition will smile home with the Star Prize of N1m cash, while the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th placed schools will receive 250K, 200K and 150K, respectively.”

Billed for Thursday, April 28, 2022, from 10:00am to 12:45pm, the innovative competition will hold at the Multipurpose Hall, Caleb University, Imota Lagos.

Sponsors of NIDP 2022 include, Zenith Bank Plc, Stanbic IBTC Bank, Eco Bank Plc, and UBA Plc., De Millers Farms, Fan Milk of Nigeria Plc. Others are Golden Penny Foods, Rite Foods, Checkers Africa Ltd.,  as well as  the school’s host community, Imota Local Government Area.
