Burning Obiozor House Highlights Level Of Insecurity In Igboland – Group

A socio-cultural group, Concerned Imeobi Members (CIM), has expressed shock and dismay over destruction of the house of President-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof. George Obiozor in Imo State by yet-to-be identified persons.

It could be recalled that some unidentified individuals on Saturday, March 19th, 2022 razed Prof. Obiozor’s country home at Awomamma in Oru East Local Government Areas and Umuguma Police Headquarters in Owerri West LGA in Imo State with fire.

The Concerned Imeobi Members through a statement signed by its Chairman, Dr. Uma Eleazu, Secretary, Dr. Abraham Nwankwo and Co-ordinator, Engr. Chris Okoye, observed that the unfortunate incident clearly highlights the height and complexity of insecurity in the entire Igbo land, which according to them is now taking more horrendous dimensions despite the commendable efforts of some groups such as the Representatives of Igbo Archbishops & Bishops and the South East Council of Traditional Rulers.

The Imeobi members offered words of consolation to Prof. Obiozor and prayed God to comfort him over the incident.

The group equally urged all stakeholders in Igboland to show full commitment towards restoration of harmony, peace and security in the region, for the sake of progress and development and the future generation.

The statement reads “We, the Concerned Imeobi Members, are deeply shocked and dismayed by the news of the destruction of your country home on March 19th, 2022 by yet-to-be identified persons.

“We wish to assure you that we fully share in your pains from this very unfortunate incident and pray the Almighty God to comfort you throughout the period of this unfortunate trial.

“We are deeply concerned that the spate of violence in Alaigbo is assuming even more horrendous dimensions despite the very commendable and historic efforts being made by various responsible and responsive groups, including notably, the Joint Body (JB) of the Representatives of Igbo Archbishops & Bishops and the South East Council of Traditional Rulers. These are efforts to which the Concerned Imeobi Members have fully lent their support.

“This troubling and most painful incidence of the destruction of our brother’s property has, once again, highlighted the unbelievable depth and complexity of the enormity of the insecurity confronting Alaigbo.

“We are constrained to use this opportunity, once more, to plead with all stakeholders – at all levels – to recognise that the restoration of understanding, harmony, peace and security, is the most important responsibility facing any well-meaning and selfless Igbo person at this defining moment in the history of the Igbo Nation.

“We implore everybody to commit themselves to this pursuit for the sake of our future generations.

“We pray the Almighty God to mercifully bless all efforts towards achieving peace and security in Alaigbo and, indeed, the entire country,” the group stated.
