Buhari Swears In Justice Ariwoola As New CJN

Following the resignation of Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, President Muhammadu Buhari has on Monday sworn in Justice Olukayade Ariwoola as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Justice Muhammad who is 68, resigned on health grounds.

According to reports, Buhari administered the oath of office on Ariwoola at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Ariwoola is a justice of the Nigeria’s Supreme Court and becomes the third CJN to be sworn in the life of the current administration.

The new CJN was until his appointment to bench of the Supreme Court on November 22, 2011, a justice of the Nigerian Court of Appeal.

Ariwoola who is currently 62 is expected to serve in acting capacity pending further confirmation by the National Judicial Council (NJC), the highest judicial body in the country.
